Laryngology is a sub-specialty of ENT that manages benign disorders, diseases and injuries of the throat and larynx (voice box). This includes conditions such as recurrent sore throat, change in voice, difficulties with swallowing, chronic cough and upper airway restriction. The laryngology centre at UCLH consists of four consultant surgeons and eight speech and language therapists. This represents the largest laryngology department within the UK and provides a comprehensive service to adults and children with conditions affecting the throat or larynx.
The department also has a strong academic basis and links with University College London. Academic activities include basic science and clinical research as well as teaching and educational courses.
The centre works closely with a number of specialists across the UCLH network including respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, head and neck cancer services and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
Referral to this service is via your GP.
